The founding of an international school in the hills of northern New Mexico was not only a unique education venture, it was also the story of unusual individuals involved in an enterprise that is undoubtedly the finest memorial to the controversial businessman and philanthropist, Armand Hammer. As one of the United World Colleges under the presidency of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, the institution opened with a flourish in September 1982, struggled with disappointments and financial uncertainty, but persevered to become an outstanding academic program for young people, ages 16 to 19, from over 70 countries around the world. This book focuses on the personalities involved, the international perspective, and the unpredictable participation of Hammer and his associates. It provides glimpses of all these people.
