In the small village of Bukovina, Ukraine, Ivan Yurkovich comes of age amid the demands of wheat farming and the harsh realities of life under the Russian Empire. His family, like countless others across the region, endures heavy taxation, political suppression, and the unrelenting struggle of rural poverty.
